The Birth of Google
[Larry] Page noticed that while it was trivial to follow links from one page to another, it was nontrivial to discover links back. In other words, when you looked at a Web page, you had no idea what pages were linking back to it. This bothered Page. He thought it would be very useful to know who was linking to whom...

O resto do tempo eu lia.

We Are the Web
"Online culture is the culture".

Unleash Your Ideavirus
The first 100 years of our country's history were about who could build the biggest, most efficient farms. The second 100 years were about the race to build efficient factories. Welcome to the third century: This one's about ideas.
* * *
In the new economy, consumers have built up antibodies that resist traditional marketing. That's why we need to stop marketing at people, and start creating an environment where consumers can market to one another.
* * *
Think of an ideavirus as a big idea that runs amok across a target population. It's the fashionable idea of the moment that propagates through a section of the population, teaching and changing everyone it touches. Heard of Hotmail? Ever used it? If so, it's not because Hotmail ran a lot of TV ads (it didn't). It's because the ideavirus got to you. Someone you know infected you with it.

Can Google Stay Google?
SGI [Silicon Graphics Inc.] is nearly forgotten only a decade after it reached the heights of Silicon Valley glory. It makes you think the unthinkable: Might Google face the same fate? Ten years from now, could Google be a vanquished champ while a newer contender takes over its campus? Silicon Valley is a notoriously brutal place. It's incredibly hard to maintain a lead in technology. As [Sergey] Brin [Google's cofounder] plays in the sand at the "Googleplex," could there be the next Brin waiting five miles away at the Stanford campus - another obscure but brilliant computer-science graduate student who'll swiftly reinvent the digital realm? Will slower-moving giants like Microsoft get the time to catch up? Google has terrific momentum - unlike many companies, it doesn't have to worry unduly about the next quarter. The real questions (and they're questions any fast-growing, innovation-based company must ask itself at some point) are: How can Google keep its edge for the long run? What can it do to make sure it's still a hot company in 2010? How can a maturing organization with 3,000 people hold on to what made it a great startup?
Alan Deutschman, na Fast Company (via Edu Carvalho).

Reasons to get rid of majors
1) Music diversity will grow.
2) Pay-for-play radio will end.
3) Independent music won't be marginalized.
4) The lawsuits will stop.
5) Artistic freedom will expand.
6) Musicians will make a better living.
