Claude Schopp, que descobriu uma obra inacapada de Dumas Pai, no Guardian: "It's amazing. What thrilled me was that the novel corresponded to the missing work in Dumas' history (...) It's like a testament. He knew he was ill and that he was going to die (...) The text is beautiful because we can feel that he was struggling with the mass of historical material he was working with (...) I'm going to propose to write the whole novel".

E Jean-Pierre Sicre, sobre a mesma história, no Le Monde: "On imagine l'émerveillement de Claude Schopp, spécialiste d'entre les spécialistes de la vie et de l'ouvre de Dumas, découvrant à la faveur d'un aimable hasard (mais le hasard existe-t-il?) un texte totalement ignoré qui se révéla être le dernier des grands romans de Dumas". Com direito a réplica do próprio Schopp: "Si on trouve parfois sans chercher, c'est parce qu'on a longtemps cherché sans trouver".
